Do you make these common freestyle swimming mistakes?
Some stroke flaws aren’t just technique issues but may be mobility and stability problems. If you make these common mistakes and the typical swim drills aren’t helping. Consider these points and dryland exercises.
Mistake:
Crossing midline on your entry - you know your hand should enter in front of your shoulder and you do a number of drills to focus on it, but maybe mobility is keeping you from a straight line.
Fix:
Downward dog with a cross body reach is great for improving your reach overhead on one arm, while improving rotation in your upper back and hips to give you the straight reach with rotation you need for an efficient freestyle.
Mistake:
Your arm drifts wide and your legs scissor when you breathe - rotating too much, hyper mobility, coupled with poor core stability can leave your flailing for balance.
Fix:
This core row helps you develop the core strength to anchor and brace while one arm is long and loaded and the other is pulling.
A stroke analysis can help you see and measure these flaws, helping to guide an exercise program specific to your needs with change you can feel.
