Alappuzha: It took around 16 hours for the elephant squad and locals to rescue the elephant that fell into a swamp in the early hours of the day after running amok at Thuravoor in Alapuzha district. Mullayillkal Balakrishnan belongs to the Mullayillkal temple and was brought to the Thrikkakara temple for the festivities held for the past 10 days. After the temple festivities, the elephant was being taken back in a lorry when it suffered unrest. The elephant destroyed the safety guards of the vehicle and ran amok for over 2 hours creating panic among the local residents. It also destroyed several vehicles and demolished compound walls of a few houses.
