62-year-old Mrs Nupur underwent dialysis thrice every week when she was brought to Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Howrah. Till then, her urine output was nil. She was supervised by Dr Partha Karmakar, Consultant Nephrology.
She was admitted, and for the first two days, she did not undergo dialysis. Third day onwards, the urine volume increased, and the creatinine count dropped. Further tests revealed that she had stones in her left kidney, and it was non-functional. The team urologist suggested removing the organ. Doctors did a renogram and found only her right kidney was functioning. Following this, Mrs Nupur underwent nephrectomy surgery.
Without dialysis, with the help of proper treatment and medications, her urine output increased. Recent tests revealed that her kidney function has increased despite removing the left kidney. She is now healthy and living a normal life.
