The Centre said that the gap between the first and second doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield vaccine should be increased to 6-8 weeks from the current 28 days. This is applicable only for Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield and NOT for Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.
In a letter to states and Union Territories, the Union health ministry said that the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation in India (NTAGI) and the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for Covid-19 (NEGVAC) have recommended that the gap between the two doses should be increased since it will lead to "enhanced protection".
