Once again, the GSSA is hosting its annual Geoskills Workshop in 2021. Due to popular demand, this course has been extended to SIX half-days from 11 May to 15 June. It is available as a live webinar or as a recorded on-demand programme. As usual, the course provides insights into the many topics not covered at university, but which will assist in making you a better, more well-rounded geologist; including what geologists need to know about South African mineral law, mining, mineral processing & metallurgy, survey, engineering geology & hydrogeology (geohydrology), laboratory procedures, remote sensing, big data/database management as well as ESG issues.
Also covered are issues around how to make the most of mentoring opportunities, good writing (of technical papers, reports, etc.), writing an eye-catching CV and acing that important interview. The final day is dedicated to all facets of drilling and includes hands-on, practical features of this important aspect of a geologist life – the tried-and-tested, as well as the high-tech future.
The presenters are all experienced professionals in their fields and are giving freely of their time to give you insights into some of the many and varied aspects of the minerals industry. Day 5 includes a panel discussion featuring several geologists with extensive experience in various aspects of geology. Hear their experiences and ask them questions – you will be surprised how many of them started off with the same concerns that you have now.
