If you’re moving to Guernsey or the Channel Islands, you may want to cut your ties with the UK or country of origin to avoid paying additional tax e.g. selling your home or closing bank accounts.
David White, the Tax Director at EY, talks to Quintessential Relocation Consultants about how your UK ties are relevant to your tax liability and the potential exemptions. David explains how you won’t need to cut your UK ties if you:
- move to Guernsey for employment reasons
- spend less than 91 days per year in the UK
- limit work in the UK to 30 days per year
He also explains:
- automatic statutory residency tests
- the five ties tests
- becoming domiciled in Guernsey for inheritance tax purposes
