Specification of Badminton Hall
1. Height:
For Major BWF Tournaments ( i.e. Olympic Games, BWF Grade 1 and 2, the minimum requirement of height from floor is 12 meters ( i.e 39 ft)
For other BWF Tournaments the minimum requirement of height from floor is 9 meters ( i.e 29 ft)
2. Flooring:
It is mandatory that Wooden Sprung Floor ( sprung floor means, the floor that absorbs Shocks ) together with Non-Slip mats are used.
It is important that 2 meters clear space should be behind the baselines of the Court ( for A-Boards or similar Advertising )
and 1.5 meters or 2 meters clear space if court is marked side by side
For Major Tournaments minimum of 4 meters clear space to accommodate A-Boards and Chair for the officials.
3. Net and Net Posts:
It is important that BWF approved Nets and Nets-Posts are used.
4. Umpires Chair:
The chair must be stable and safe for the umpire to climb up and get down.
There should be hinged Writing Platform to rest the Score-sheet, unless Electronic scoring equipment is used.
The chair should be in the equal height of the Net ( i.e 1.55 meters)
The chair should be placed approx 1 meter from the net.
5. Background:
The Area behind the playing area should not have white or light colored Background to avoid difficulties seeing the shuttle.
only darker color background should be used.
It is important the A-Boards should not have more then 20% lighter color. it is mandatory to have darker color.
6. Lighting:
The minimum requirement of light for any Badminton court is 1000 lux.
For still Photography and TV Broadcasting the minimum light requirement is 1500 - 1800 lux.
It is important that lighting should not be placed over the Playing area to avoid glare or difficulties seeing the shuttle.
The lighting should be placed by the side of Court.
Any Daylight or Sunlight on the court should be eliminated.
7. Air-Movement:
Any air movement ( i.e Droughts from Air conditioning or other sources ) must be tightly controlled or eliminated.
8. Temperature:
In the playing area minimum Temperature should be kept to 18 to 30 o C
And also other things like Shuttle, Warm-up and Practice courts allocation, Medical or Physio Personnel, Changing facilities and Players Lounges/Area. should also be taken into consideration.
