CDC: Link between Zika & microcephaly
The US Centers for Disease Control says there is enough evidence to link the Zika virus and a birth defect that causes small heads and brain damage. The virus is spread mostly by mosquitoes. And the the director of the CDC, Thomas Frieden said “Never before in history has there been a situation where a bite from a mosquito can result in a devastating malformation.” The current Zika outbreak began in Brazil about a year ago, and it’s now spread to 42 countries.
Families suing over Germanwings crash
The families of the people killed in Germanwings flight 9525 are suing the school where the co-pilot trained. The plane crashed last March when Andreas Lubitz locked the pilot out of the cabin and flew it into the ground in the Alps. All 150 people on board the flight died. The families say that the school didn’t properly screen Lubitz. Their lawyers say that his medical history made him a ‘suicide time bomb.’ The school is owned by Lufthansa, which owns Germanwings.
Kobe Bryant plays final game
Kobe Bryant has played the last game of his 20-year career. The basketball star scored 60 points, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a come-from-behind victory against the Utah Jazz. Bryant is an 18-time all-star and has won five NBA championships.
Drone explores Loch Ness
A group using a marine drone to search Loch Ness in Scotland didn’t find the legendary monster...But they did find something else at the bottom of the lake. The underwater survey uncovered a replica of ‘Nessie.’The prop had been used for the film "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes” nearly 50 years ago. The researchers are expected to soon release more sonar images.
