During the pandemic, interest in Scottish castles skyrocketed as people rushed to leave cities and set up life in the countryside. We visit two castles in Scotland — Baltersan castle near Ayr, and Dunskey Estate near Stranraer — to explore the joys and challenges of maintaining these historic properties.
00:02 Baltersan Castle is located in Maybole in South Ayshire. Its owner James Brown purchased the 16th century tower house three decades ago and sees himself as a guardian of Scottish heritage. Finding the right investor for his ambitious restoration plans has been hard.
03:10 Dunskey has been in the Orr-Ewing family since the 15th century. In recent years, they've extensively renovated the property, turning it into a destination for weddings, film shoots and other events.
