Since war erupted in Sudan two years ago more than 150,000 have died, over 11 million have been internally displaced, and a further 26 million require urgent food assistance.

Analysts project that the country may now be plunged into a worse food crisis than that seen in the Horn of Africa in 1984, with the lives of millions more at risk.
Yet despite the scale of the conflict, the threat to regional stability, and the worsening humanitarian situation, the war in Africa’s third-largest country remains at the periphery of international attention.
Anthony Loyd and Times videographer Federica De Caria travelled to Omdurman and North Khartoum, to report for The Times from the heart of Sudan’s forgotten war.’
