The State Department said today that some 700 interpreters and their families will be temporarily housed at the military base outside of Richmond, Virginia, while they finish their special immigrant visa applications. The latest announcement comes after the Biden administration introduced Operation Allies Refuge, a plan designed to evacuate Afghans who aided the US military as Taliban forces take more ground and threaten the lives of interpreters and their families.
