Here is an epic 90 minute plus look at what happened on the Sunday at the annual Classic Racing Motorcycle Club meeting at the legendary Cadwell Park racing circuit in Lincolnshire (June 2023).
The classic club has extensively evolved since I first visited with my father back in the very early 1980's, and now incorporates machines which would never have been allowed back then, and some (like the Supermonos) which hadn't even been produced.
There are still a good number of machines racing from the 1960's at this event, but the majority of stuff is slightly newer vintage.
One thing which hasn't changed at all is the sidecar class, which is still very much "classic", with the BSA and BMW outfits sounding glorious!
There is a lovely range of TZ350's out there to generate the lovely blue haze in the warming up area, and the crisp 2-stroke sound, but sadly a complete absence of the Rotax engined 250cc machines which were very competitive back in the early 1980's.
Also there are is disappointing lack of RG500 and TZ500/750 machines out there.
Another sad modern-day feature is the lack of noise from the classic machines, with heave silencing evident, but all thing considered, the CRMC are keeping classic motorcycle racing alive . . .
This video features all classes - one race from each class filmed, the other spent in the paddock as I try to capture the atmosphere of the event.
There will be many editing errors as I have not been through it thoroughly to eradicate them, but this should keep the enthusiasts of the classic motorcycle racing genre happy!
