In this part, we begin the game on a train as Lightning. As we fight off nearby guards, we are joined by Sazh of his own accord in an area known as The Hanging Edge. The main Combat related Tutorial we need to focus on is Auto-Battle. In FF13, you can manually "queue" your attacks ahead of time and then perform them, or you can choose Auto-Battle to let the CPU queue them for you instantly. Auto Battling is the lazy way to play the game and the fastest, but there will be times where we'll have to manually input certain attacks as it will take the CPU a long time to use them versus prioritizing other abilities. After finishing a battle, we will be rated via a 5-Star System on how well we did. This system doesn't do much for us at this moment, but it will be important later on, so aim to finish your battles quickly if possible. Another thing to note is that we are fully healed after each battle, so no need to panic and attempt to heal after a rough one. Finally as a warning, if your Party Leader (whoever you specifically are playing as) falls in battle, it's instantly a Game Over, regardless of the health your allies have.
We'll have several tutorials on how combat works and a brief summary of how the Stagger System works, though we won't get the true explanation of it for a while. To summarize, attacking the enemy will slowly fill the Stagger Gauge and upon filling it, the enemy will be "Staggered" and will take critical hits of damage until the gauge empties out. Every enemy type has a different Stagger Gauge, so strategy will be important later.
Additionally, I will be going through the Datalog every time it updates as the information on the story inside it is not explained very well otherwise. That being the case, I'll let the Datalog explain what's going on story wise instead of spamming it down here in the description.
Lastly, every Save Station allows us to Shop for items from all the different stores we've unlocked (not much to choose from at this point), however we won't be accessing this very much asides from buying Potions and upgrading our weapons way later on in the game. Gil is only acquired from Treasure Chests, or by selling items for it, so save what you have for now.

There is no need to go into combat strategies at this point as all we can do is manually spam physical attacks to win, and throw potions if our health looks low.
