ESC2023_TP14_M3_gas_turbine_inspectioN-TEST PROJECT Module 3 – Gas Turbine Hot Section Inspection
Objective:
To test the competitor’s ability to remove and install a Gas Turbine engine hot section in accordance with the Manufacturer’s Maintenance manual including the use of either a rigid or flexible boroscope (as per the extra instructions provided at the competition). This work will be carried out in accordance with the appropriate Operation And Maintenance Manual. The engine shall be treated as a live engine in a live aircraft and the maintenance manual followed accordingly. The engine shall not be rotated from the horizontal position.
Time allotted 2.0 hours
Process:
1 Remove the fuel nozzle for internal access to the First Stage Turbine Nozzle (Guide Vanes) that is to be inspected using a boroscope.
2 Complete a defect report for the boroscope inspection of the First Stage Nozzle (Guide Vanes). Two (2) defects for the Nozzle are to be identified, documented, and submitted to Judge prior to progressing to Step 3. Note: it is not necessary to identify all faults found.
3 Remove the Combustion Can and supporting components for further visual inspection. Note: remove the spark igniter
4 Complete a defect report for the visual inspection of the combustion Can. Two (2) defects for the Combustion Can is to be identified
5 Re-install Combustion Can and supporting components that return the hot section to the original starting condition.
6 Return all completed paperwork to the Judge for evaluation
