1946 b/w sound short film. One of the worst edited films in my collection. A short tour of fishing out of Guaymas Mexico. After passing Japanese shrimpers and local Mexican turtle “fishermen” the fellas try their luck inshore fishing before heading out to deeper waters. They bring in a few Sierra (Spanish) Macs, which, in this film are referred to as Mullet. Then they hook in to something nicer. The editing here is atrocious. They show a Sailfish jumping, then a Blue Marlin greyhounding, followed by a small hooked-up female Dorado (mahi, dolphinfish) and then actually boat a large Jack Crevalle, not a Dorado, which they claim to have been fighting all along. After bottom fishing for assorted reef fish they head offshore for the “mighty Marlin”. They hook up a feisty 80 or so pound Striped Marlin, which the narrator claims is a 450 pounder. After showing several jumping billfish including a Striped Marlin, Blue Marlin and a Sailfish (which they’re trying to subdue boat side) they do indeed land a Blue Marlin about 200lbs. Good luck following the story line of this film.
