Yamini Singh is a prominent television and film actress. She has worked on several projects and won hundreds of hearts. Some of her television shows include Bandhan, Daaman, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi...Let's Go, Mere Ghar Aayi Ek Nanhi Pari, Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai, and Jhoome Jiiya Re. Yamini Singh is known for her handwork in the Industry.

Q1. How was the year 2020 for you? Did you learn anything new?
A1. For me the year 2020 was really good since I launched my own brand “Bhanot.india” last year which deals with handicrafts and handlooms. During lockdown also I used my time in a constructive way as we actors are always taught how to use them in-between time constructively. During those days only we went online with our brand and it was very fruitful and positive for me.

Q2. You have been a part of this industry for 28 years. How was your experience?
A2. I did my first work as an actor in the year 1993 in the movie “Tarpan”. Before that, I did a few advertisements for UNICEF under the direction of Mr. Shyam. I felt very privileged while working with him as he did teach me how to face the camera and I am eternally grateful to him. After that, I got a chance to work with Mr. Om Puri and that’s how it continued.

Q3. You have worked in many TV serials as well. What changes do you feel while acting in a TV serial and a movie?
For me, if you compare theatre and TV then there is a difference and that is working in front of the camera. But if you compare acting in a TV serial or acting in a movie then there is not much difference. Under both the circumstances, you are facing the camera and you are preparing accordingly. But yes, the working hours for TV serials are more as compared to movies but on the other side, the pre-preparations before shooting a movie are way too much.

Q4. OTT platforms are trending these days. What are your views on it?
A4. I think that’s very nice as when we started working there were not many satellite channels but as the number increased for channels people also got the opportunity to show their talent. And I believe if we are getting another platform to generate more opportunities then we should utilize it to the fullest as in our country people are very much talented but they do not get the right platform and so it is good for everybody.

Q5. Which role of yours do you think was the most challenging?
A5. I had very interesting incidents during my whole journey. In 1995-96 a show came in the name of “Colgate Top 10”. I was opposite Mr. Satish Kaushik in that show. I learned comedy while working in that show. Then I worked with Balaji in a TV serial “Ghar Ek Mandir” and played the role of a mother and simultaneously I worked in a serial “Shehnai” in which I played the role of the youngest daughter. These two characters were so different from each of them and the graph was huge. Also, I have always done very powerful characters.

Q6. While you were a part of the dramatic department you had seniors like Mr. Anupam Kher and Ms. Kirron Kher. How were those days?
A6. Those days were really amazing and very eventful. During those days I learned that learning just cannot be done inside the classroom, we can learn different and new things under a tree as well. I totally loved learning and working with them. I learned that you do not need to hold yourself and you should set yourself free. I am so happy that I am living my dream and I never felt it like a burden.


We have heard that you would prefer to do any negative role as well if any good script is offered. Any negative role played in any movie that you have wondered to perform it yourself?
Yes, there is a movie by Mahesh Bhatt “Arth” starring Smita Patil and Shabana Azmi. So, the character played by Smita Patil in that movie was very physic wherein she used to overthink. So much I would like to do such challenging roles where you can play with your mind.
