Welcome back to Truth Worth Living, where we seek to understand God’s Word so we can live in God’s will!
Today, we’re talking about John, the youngest of the apostles and the brother of James. While history often remembers John as the "Apostle of Love," Jesus gave him and his brother the nickname “Sons of Thunder.” So, who’s right? The answer is... both!
John began his journey with Jesus as competitive and fiery, with a passion for truth that sometimes went unchecked. His competitive spirit was evident, even in moments of deep spiritual significance. For instance, in John 20, when Mary Magdalene reported that Jesus’ body was missing, John had to point out that he outran Peter to the tomb. 🏃💨
John also had a deep zeal for truth, writing about it 25 times in his Gospel and another 20 times in his letters. But this passion sometimes led him to act without grace. In Mark 9, John bragged about stopping someone from casting out demons in Jesus’ name because they weren’t part of their group. Jesus lovingly corrected him, teaching John to balance truth with grace.
Over time, spending time with Jesus transformed John. He learned to channel his passion for truth and competitiveness into service for the kingdom. The result? He became a key figure in shaping the early church, driven by both truth and love.
John’s story reminds us that Jesus can take our rough edges and refine them for His glory. The same transforming power is available to us!
✨ That’s truth worth remembering, and this is Truth Worth Living! ✨
