Exactly two decades ago, I was watching a program called "Australia's Funniest People." I told my wife Rebecca that I can do an act on that show. She asked me what I could do. I said, I could drink water through my nose - which I do every day and I have been doing it since I was about eight. "Why would that be funny?" She asked. I thought it would be funny at least in a weird way. At the end of the program, they announced that their next audition will be at the SeaWorld on the Gold Coast - just a short drive away from Southport where we lived at the time. So, off we went. There was a filming crew. We went early. So, I got to do my stuff. The trouble was, the cameraman was not quite ready. So, we did a retake and another. After about five, I had had it. I said, "This is the last take." I ain't doing it no more. A few weeks later, they said my act was selected among the finalists which would be aired. Usually, they have half a dozen acts and the studio audience vote. In the late afternoon, I got a call from the producer of the show urging me to watch the show. And guess what? The Act was #1. As a prize, we won a "Houseful of Hoovers". We got washer, drier, vacuum cleaner, two refrigerators - it was worth around A$5,000. That was my 15 seconds of Warholian fame. In this video, I do a reenactment of that. That was my highest earning: A$5,000 for 15 seconds work. That would be $10 billion a year. Eat your heart out, Bill Gates!
Fun aside, this ancient technique from India helps keep cold at bay. If you have sinus problems, this is a sure way of curing it. Tonsilitis, ditto. All you need is some water at body temperature. It may be difficult to do it as a beginning with a glass, it might be easier with a bowl. Needless to say, the water should be free of bacteria. Preboiled water is a good bet.
You see neti pots sold in the market for doing this in a much more painful way. Do NOT waste your money buying a neti pot. They are not worth it. A plastic bowl is good enough.
Here is what Swami Vivekananda said in his book Raja Yoga: "For instance, some of you will find it a good thing for headaches (migraines) to drink cold water through the nose as soon as you get up in the morning; the whole day your brain will be nice and cool, and you will never catch cold. It is very easy to do; put your nose into the water, draw it up through the nostrils and make a pump action in the throat."
It is a whole lot more than just headaches and migraines. Many other diseases of the respiratory systems can be mitigated with this method. The best of all: It will cost you NOTHING!
