(23 Jun 1977) General Secretary Of The French Communist Party, Mr Georges Marchais, has hit out at the attitude of his counterpart in the country's Socialist Party, Francois Mitterrand. The attack came at a Paris press conference on Thursday (23 June 77), after Mitterrand appeared to back-pedal on a commitment for a common policy in France's left. The Socialist Party held their congress in the town of Nantes over the weekend (17 June - 19 June 77). In the course of it, Mitterrand not only refused to compromise with the left wing of his own party, but also said he was unwilling to discuss with the Communists the details of a common policy for the left
