한국나이 시스템 폐지
Now it’s time for On Point, where we speak to experts to delve deeper into the biggest news stories in the spotlight right now. One of the more confusing aspects of Korean culture is the age system, where you’re considered one year old from the moment of birth and then turn two on the following January 1st.
But with the incoming Yoon administration looking to scrap the age old system, what kind of changes can we expect?
For this we're joined by An Jun-seong, Professor of International Law at Yonsei University Graduate School of International Studies. Thank you for joining us this morning.
First off, can you explain how the Korean age system was implemented in the first place?
How is the idea of scrapping the Korean age system being welcomed by Koreans? Are there more people for or against the idea at the moment?
In your view, what are the some pros and cons of scrapping the Korean age system?
From what I understand, certain government documents already use the so-called international age. If the Korean age system is scrapped, where would we see immediate changes take place in Korea?
Thank you for you insights today. Look forward to talking to you again.
