• How does taking a gap year after undergrad affect the application process and experience in the PhD/masters program?
• What were experiences in your undergrad that were most helpful in preparing you for post-grad?
• Does the masters program lead more directly into the path of clinical work? And what generally do the PhD and masters programs differ in their future pathways?
• How long does it generally take students to finish the PhD program?
• What advice would you give to someone just starting on the path toward a career in counseling psychology? What do you wish you had known when you started?
• Have any of your peers (or yourselves) been adult learners? eg undergraduate in their 30's and pursuant of a masters.
• How do you stick out to gain research experience? I feel like there are few labs hiring or they prioritize those who already have research experience under their belt.
• What careers can you pursue with just the Masters? What additional doors does a PhD open up?
• What are some key factors that admissions committees look for in applicants, beyond GPA/GRE/ what types of research experience are most appealing?
• Do you have any advice regarding fellowships or assistantships experience? How did you find balance in your time?
