This was a fun project to paint!! First I painted the butterfly on heavy weight yupo paper, spray sealed it two times with Kamar varnish, and six times with Golden Archival varnish with UVLS in satin finish. Then I cut the butterfly out, and I added little pieces of foam core board on the back to raise up the butterfly so that it wasn’t sitting on the background, but rather hovering above it. Then I painted the background on ceramic tile paper, and again spray seal just like before. Then I glued the garden scene onto the background board of the shadow box with Liquitex acrylic matte gel, let that dry, and glued on the butterfly with E6000 glue. Then I put the backing back on the box with my artwork enclosed within. I hope you enjoyed this video, please let me know in the comments if you have any questions!
