In the last week of January 1991, in an effort to deter coalition forces amassed on the border of Iraqi-occupied Kuwait, Saddam Hussein dumped millions of barrels of oil into the Persian Gulf.

ITN's Peter Sharp reported from the Saudi-Kuwaiti border on the catastrophic ecological impact of the oil spill, and Saddam Hussein's attempts to buy time in the face of the coalition's military build-up.
