Alessandro del Piero was expected to inspire Sydney FC to a tilt at A-League glory this season, but instead they plunged to their fourth defeat in a row on Friday to stay bottom after their opponents, and league leaders, Adelaide converted a scrappy winner shortly before the final whistle.
Del Piero forced a decent save from Eugene Galekovic with an accurate free kick.
