Conservative leadership candidate Mel Stride says the Reform UK leader Nigel Farage fuelled far-right violence after sharing misinformation about the Southport stabbings.
Mr Farage had speculated on the background of the attacker and questioned whether "the truth is being withheld from us" after three young girls were stabbed to death in a dance class in the town.
Mr Stride also distanced himself from comments made by fellow Conservative leadership candidate Robert Jenrick, who told Sky News on Wednesday that anyone chanting the phrase "Allahu Akbar" in the street should be arrested.
