Ever heard ADD and ADHD used interchangeably, but wondered what the real difference is? @doc_amen dives into the history behind the confusion.
Originally, in the 1980s with the DSM-III, the term was Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) with or without hyperactivity. A revision in 1987 changed it to ADHD, which wasn’t perfect because some with ADD aren’t hyperactive. They later adjusted it to AD/HD, which was just as confusing as the first change.
The takeaway? Both ADD and ADHD are generally accepted terms, and they describe the same condition – just with varying levels of hyperactivity.
Learn to be FLEXIBLE with the terminology. ❤️
