Welcome to my beginner-friendly braiding basics series!
Today I am showing you how to do a fishtail braid. This is one of my favorite braids to add to any hairstyle because it looks very intricate and detailed. It is super easy to do, even for beginner braiders!
Fun fact: It's actually the first braid I learned how to do (before a normal braid!) when I was seven years old.
TIPS FOR BEGINNERS:
↠always brush out any tangles before braiding
↠section off a manageable amount of hair to braid
↠braid on a doll with wavy hair (super straight hair is harder to bend when you’re learning how to braid for the first time!)
↠separate the hair into two even pieces (don’t make it lopsided!)
↠grab sections of hair from the outside
↠grab sections of hair that are roughly the same size (the smaller the section, the more detailed your braid will look but the longer it will take!)
↠keep tension on the braid while braiding to make it tight and secure
↠finish off the braid with a few normal stitches to make it easier to tie off
↠after securing, pull the sides of the braid if you want a more voluminous/relaxed look to your braid
↠keep practicing! the more you practice, the easier and better your braids will be ☺
