First, I discuss the characteristics of REITs. I tell you what it takes for a stock (or trust) to qualify as a REIT. I also explain where REIT dividends come from, and why their dividend yields are so much higher than traditional stocks. We also take a good look at the pros and cons of investing in #REITs so that you can consider if they are an appropriate investment for you.
Then, I discuss the qualities of traditional IRAs vs Roth IRAs, highlighting their differences so that you can understand the full benefits of pairing REITs with a Roth IRA. To do this, I clarify the different tax benefits that each account offers. Hopefully this can help you determine if one of these tax-advantaged accounts are right for you.
Finally, I connect the two subjects to explain why holding REITs inside a #RothIRA can be such a powerful investment. This combo can help diversify your portfolio by adding a new asset class (real estate) and protecting you from the volatility of the overall stock market. REITs are also a great hedge against inflation, which can further protect your retirement fund from the inevitable costs of investing. Finally, by putting REITs inside your Roth IRA, you can enjoy the full benefits of their impressive dividend yields without incurring the high tax costs that would be otherwise unavoidable.
Are you #investing in REITs? If so, how are you including them in your Roth IRA or other accounts? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
