The ice-fishing season in north China kicked off on Sunday, as the first net was cast on the frozen lake of Chagan Nuoer in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
Local fishermen hold traditional sacrificial rites and prayers on the lake to show respect toward the "Lake God" while praying for a good harvest. They speculated that more than 10,000 kilograms of fish were reeled in during the first cast.
In the evening, the leftover fish were left frozen on the lake to be later collected, sorted, and shipped to markets in the morning. For the local fishermen, this is simply another year of harvest.
