Most investors, according to Dalbar research receive a lower return than the investments they own...much lower. How can that be? A reason put forth is that we move into hot funds after their hot steak and then bail when they disappoint. We sell when the market is sinking. If we would think about our investments as OWNING great companies and have patience we would do much better.
