Mayor Robert Garcia provides the latest information related to COVID-19. The City of Long Beach is experiencing a rapid increase in cases, hospitalizations and ICU capacity at record breaking numbers. Data is suggesting that the reported median are of individuals in the 20-30’s age range and can be traced to the Thanksgiving holiday. While the vaccine has arrived, the first tier (1a) is currently being administered to health care workers in hospitals, clinics and skilled nursing facilities. Essential workers (tier 1b) will be next to receive the vaccine. Distribution of doses will occur all throughout 2021 with the public beginning in spring.
