Today, I'm visiting Gifu castle in Gifu city. This castle is on the top of the mountain, so many visitors choose the ropeway to reach the castle, but today, I chose to walk.
The trail is in the forest, so you can enjoy nature.

Gifu castle was established about 800 years ago and changed hands many times. The most famous lord of this castle is Oda Nobunaga. Do you know him? The castle tower was used as the place to escape into in case of an enemy attack and as a storehouse. It was a fortress. The castle tower stands on the stone foundation. This is a wooden statue of Nobunaga. In the castle tower, things related to Nobunaga are on display.

There used to be a beautiful palace at the foot of the mountain and a Portuguese missionary was entertained by Nobunaga in the palace. The missionary said the palace was the most beautiful building he had ever seen. Japanese worriers wore armor like this in the battle.

These stairs lead to the top floor of the castle tower. Now, we are on the top floor. From here, we can enjoy a 360-degree view! Below us, Gifu city, neighboring towns and mountains spread. Please enjoy beautiful scenery. Sometimes the castle is open at night, then you can enjoy beautiful night view from here. The river below is the Nagaragawa river. It is famous for cormorant fishing.

You can have lunch at a restaurant near the castle, looking at scenery. Today, I chose buckwheat noodle. It was so good. Thank you for watching!
