The contest marked the first time Robinson and O'Neal faced off against one another on the NBA stage. Over time, O'Neal utilized fictitious disdain for Robinson to help fuel a rivalry between the two over the course of next decade. During that stretch, O'Neal earned three championships as a lead man with the Los Angeles Lakers while Robinson finished with two rings alongside Tim Duncan.
