Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick has told Times Radio an announcement on the end of school bubbles can be expected soon.
Speaking to Tom Newton Dunn and Paul Waugh on T&G on Sunday, he said:
I do want those restrictions to come to an end. As a parent, I've seen it first hand. It's extremely frustrating and although of course, children who are at home can still learn remotely, as parents we know that it's not the same, and is having a detrimental impact upon young people's education. We want to see that come to an end and to move to a different and better system. That will be announced ahead of the step four announcement. Parents listening to this programme only have a short while to wait until they have clarity in that regard.
And he offered hope to those hoping to go on holiday to amber list countries:
We hope that by late summer people will be able to go on holiday to amber list countries, if they've been double jabbed. There are still certain details to work through on that and the Transport Secretary will be setting those out soon. But it is our hope and expectation that you will be able to do that. But I wouldn't personally advise someone to go and book a holiday unless they're confident they can get a refund until they've heard from the Transport Secretary.
Yesterday on Times Radio, Shadow Home Secretary Nick Thomas-Symonds said Michael Gove "should clarify" if he's broken any social distancing rules during the breakdown of his marriage. Robert Jenrick has dismissed the suggestion:
I think it's appalling if Labour have said that. I've not seen any evidence to suggest anything of that sort and this seems to me to be an entirely private matter for Michael Gove and his family so I don't intend to comment on that at all.
I don't think Labour have any evidence to support that claim. It seems like that's entirely unsubstantiated. This is a personal matter. Michael Gove and his wife are friends of mine. Of course I wish them well but it's not something that we should be commenting on as politicians and it's very unfortunate that the Labour Party have chosen to make a statement like that.
And Mr Jenrick backed his Cabinet colleague Liz Truss over her comment stating "women have vaginas" during a discussion about gender issues:
I think there's a matter of biology of course of what is a woman. I mean, absolutely, I agree with Liz Truss if that's the point that she's made in the past. Undoubtedly of course we want to ensure that those people who are trans can live their life comfortably. I want everyone to live their life the way they want to and be happy and to find love wherever they can. One does have to be aware of the impact on other people. And that means that we have to be particularly sensitive in some of those settings that we, as a government, are responsible for like schools, like hospitals, like prisons. And then one has to tread carefully and think through all of the consequences of this for other members of society.
