The comet109P/Swift-Turtle was first discovered in 1892, although records of its observation by Chinese astronomers date back to 69 BCE. The comet has an orbital period of 133 years. in 1992, Swift-Tuttle passed close enough to Earth to be observed with binoculars. It will return again in 2126, when it will be bright enough to be seen with the naked eye.
