WALKING WITH PENGUINS at the END OF THE WORLD! USHUAIA'S PENGUIN ISLAND & LAGUNA ESMERALDA HIKE

In this video we finally get to see the famous penguin island down here in the Southern tip of the world next to Antarctica. We got up early and made our way by bus out of the city of Ushuaia and over to a little boat that took us out to Isla Martillo which is known as penguin island due to the fact it is home to over 10,000 penguins. We saw two different species of penguins; the Magellanic penguins and Gentoo penguins. Being on their island was incredible! These little penguins have their home so perfectly set up for their needs and being able to walk side by side them as they go about their day was a truly unforgettable experience, they seemed pretty unfazed by us except for the occasional baby penguin that came over in hope we’d have food for them.

After the most magical trip around penguin island we made our way back towards Ushuaia, stopping along the way at a local refugio for brunch made by some locals. Usually the tour bus goes back to Ushuaia afterwards but we asked the tour guide if they wouldn’t mind dropping us off a little earlier along the route so we could do the famous hike to laguna Esmeralda. Our tour guide was so helpful and the bus dropped us outside the city around 2pm so we had the afternoon to do the 9km (there and back) hike to see the glacial emerald lagoon, it was so worth it and we made it to the viewpoint and back down again by 6pm where we got a taxi back to our accommodation, thankfully although it is a little way out of the city, it’s a popular hiking place so taxis come by often so it was easy to flag one.

We are falling more in love with the city of Ushuaia each day that we spend here!
