The Arts and Crafts movement was an international trend in both decorative and fine arts that originated primarily in the British Isles and later spread throughout the British Empire, Europe, and America. Emerging as a response to the perceived decline in the quality of decorative arts and the harsh conditions under which they were produced, the movement thrived between approximately 1880 and 1920 in Europe and North America.
Some view it as a precursor to the Modern Style, which later evolved into what became known as the Art Nouveau movement, while others see it as the English version of Art Nouveau.
