Starting December 2024, USCIS will implement changes to the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) program in response to increased filings and recent fraud investigations. Some VAWA self-petitioners with both an I-360 and I-485 pending will now be required to attend interviews at their local USCIS Field Office, while stand-alone I-360 applicants are exempt.
Interview notices will be sent to safe addresses and legal representatives beginning November 2024, with case selection not based on filing order. During interviews, petitioners must address their I-360 and I-485 eligibility, including all submitted materials. Failure to attend may result in denial, though rescheduling is allowed.
These changes do not affect eligibility criteria or evidentiary standards but aim to improve fraud detection and ensure compliance.
