Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area has a scenic drive is a wonderful break from the Las Vegas Strip. Located about 15 miles west of Las Vegas Nevada, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers visitors a 13-mile scenic drive, miles of hiking trails, rock climbing, picnic areas, and a beautiful visitor center with great indoor and outdoor exhibits.
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area has a 13-mile one-way scenic drive, with multiple stops where you can enjoy beautiful views and recreational activities. First stop is Calico Hills, which is an amazing jumble of red-orange sandstone. Calico Hills offers great opportunities for hiking and rock climbing. Next stop is the Sandstone Quarry Overlook. This is personally my favorite stop for the rock scrambling and more hiking trails. At 4,771 feet, the High Point Overlook provides visitors with amazing views of the desert valley, surrounding hills and mountains. Further down the scenic drive is the Willow Springs Picnic Area. At this stop, you can hike, view petroglyphs, and stop for a picnic lunch. Our final stop for the day was the Red Rock Wash Overlook. At this stop, you have a wide-open look at the valley, the Calico Hills, the Red Rock Cliffs and the La Madre Mountains.
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area does require an entrance fee, or they also accept the America the Beautiful Pass. Timed Reservations also may be required, so be sure to check the parks website.
