In some cases, gases to treat can contain organic substances such aerosols or small particles airborne in the flow stream.
These materials can settle in cold parts of RTO’s such us the bottom parts of ceramic media. This fact is detrimental to the RTO, pressure drop increases and heat exchange performance is lower. As a consequence, operational costs raise. Additionally, depending on concentration and chemical features of these compounds, ceramic media may be clogged. Even, in extreme cases, RTO can be out of service definitively.
Burnout or Bakeout, is a special RTO working mode to clean ceramic media. It heats all ceramic up to high temperature, even at bottom part. Solid organic substances vaporize allowing to restore the initial conditions of pressure drop and heat exchange.
