This South Sudanese dad is making a refugee camp in Uganda feel like home. Idro fled the conflict in 2016 with his wife and three children. “Dad, I want us to go home.” His baby girl used to tell him. Even though she was very young, his children could sense the camp wasn’t home - so Idro built one for them. “I remember my dad used to be a rude one… So I do not want to do it the same way.” Idro explains.
“I and their mother, we’re at least trying to give them the best we can give them.” The conditions may be bad but Idro sings and plays with his children, feeds them and protects them - he showers them with love and attention. Nutritious food, love, play and protection in the early years shape children’s brain development for life. This year, we’re celebrating all the super dads who make #EarlyMomentsMatter.
