At least 129 people have been killed during a prison break attempt in the DR Congo's largest jail. The incident took place over the weekend at the Makala Prison in DR Congo's capital Kinshasa. As per the officials, no prisoner succeeded in escaping, however, the incident resulted in at least 129 deaths. It is not clear what exactly unfolded at the prison, but the country's interior minister said prisoners attempted the break out amid a fire that hit the building’s administrative buildings. Authorities say that most of the deaths took place due to a stampede at the overcrowded prison. Government officials say an investigation is underway into the incident, as they struggle to reduce the inmates from the country's overcrowded prisons. Watch for more details.
