About the piece: My favourite piece from Tchaikovsky's Children's Album Op. 39. These beautiful melancholic melody lines are perfect for students to work on a "Cantabile" sound, on phrasing and using the pedal. There are also small exercises hidden in this little piece for the independence of both hands.
Tchaikovsky wrote to his patroness Nadezhda von Meck in May 1878: "I want to create a series of little individual pieces just for children, and with an attractive title, like Schumann's [obviously referring to Schumann's "Album für die Jugend" Op. 68]. Tchaikovsky dedicated this Album to his back then 6-year-old nephew Vladimir Davydov.
