Over the weekend, Cyclone Chido unleashed unimaginable destruction on the French territory of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean, leaving nearly 1,000 people feared dead. This is the worst cyclone in 90 years to strike the island, also devastating Comoros and Madagascar.

A local hotel owner in Mamoudzou, Mayotte's capital, described the scene:
"It’s apocalyptic. We lost everything. The entire hotel is destroyed… It’s as if an atomic bomb hit Mayotte."
