New regulations to curb religious extremism took effect on Saturday in China's far-western region of Xinjiang, as part of the country’s efforts to deal with the rising threat of terrorism in this part of China. For the first time in China, the new regulations define radicalization as extremist comments and behavior that play up radical religious views and hinder people in their work and lives.
