Our Nunnally Ichthyology Collection has more than 700 extra-large specimens that are stored in stainless-steel tanks.

One of our biggest fish is a great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias). This shark came to the collection in 2004 from Smith Island Shoals, just off the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Tissue and DNA samples from this and other specimens can help researchers better understand and conserve sharks and shark populations.
