Hey you guys just wanted to make an informative video on this wonderful plant. Whether you call it Moses-in-the-Cradel, Oyster Plant, Boat Lily or Large Purple Tradescantia, this Purple and Green plant, if youre a total purple foliage junky like I am, then this one is for you! This member of the Commelinaceae family is native to modern Mesoamerican nations such as Guatemala and Belize, as well as interior strips and some coastal exclaves of Southern Mexican territory. It's been naturalized in many parts of the southeastern US, namely Florida, Where it is grown as a tropical groundcover or sub hedge. It's in the higher classification of the Spiderworts.
It has 3 petalled flowers that are pink to white in colour, borne in purple leaf casings. The flowers are extremely mildly fragranced, resembing vanilla in scent, in my opinion.

care tips:

This plant loves High diffused light, I recommend a southern window with curtains to diffuse the light so that the plant does not burn.

Divide this plant every few years, they do really well with water propagation. You can even cut off the top and root that in Water.

This plant needs very good drainage to be successful you guys, it does not like to sit in water, it will go all gross and yellow and shrively if it sits in water. I recommend using a light potting mix with lots of fibrous material, and a pot with many drainage holes to avoid this issue.

This plant will benefit from occasional dusting as dust does accumulate in the leaf surfaces and blocks out potential light energy.

The biggest issues I have seen on this plant are yellowing leaves, once again likely from overwatering, however underwatering will make them yellow as well, and pale purple sides, which may be remedied with adding more light to the growing environment.

This plant is clumping in nature with clumps exceeding 5 feet in width in its natural habitat, and seldom gets taller than 2 feet in height.
