Have you ever wondered where the world’s biggest wine cellar is? Would you have ever guessed that it was in Europe’s least visited country?
In this Eastern Europe Vlog, we will take you to Milestii Mici which is the biggest wine cellar in the world! In August 2005, Mileștii Mici was registered in the Guinness World Records as the biggest wine collection in the world. Overall, the complex holds nearly 2 million bottles of wine!
Are you looking for something unique to see in Europe on a budget? While the Cricova winery gets much more publicity, we were not able to visit. Luckily, the Milestii Mici Winery is a 30-minute or $6 taxi ride from the center of Chisinau! The State Enterprise Quality Wines Industrial Complex "Mileștii Mici" was founded in 1969 to store, preserve, and mature high-quality wines. Mileștii Mici is the biggest wine cellar in the world with more than 200 km of limestone tunnels. 55 of the 200 kilometers are used for the storage and production of wines.
We took the 50-minute guided tour through the winery. Our guide explained the history of the winery, the types of wine that’s stored there, the type of people that keep their wine in Milestii Mici, and much more! The guided tour was a unique thing to do in Europe on a budget. The tour cost $18 per person and the ticket price included a bottle of sparkling wine from Milestii Mici!
Chisinau is Europe’s least visited capital city and we truly enjoyed our time in Moldova!
