(5 Dec 2013) Britain's Prince William has expressed his condolences to the family of Nelson Mandela who has died aged 95.
Mandela became one of the world's most beloved statesmen and a colossus of the 20th century when he emerged from 27 years in prison to negotiate an end to white minority rule in South Africa.
Prince William and his wife Catherine had been attending a screening of a new film about Mandela's life when the news broke.
"It's obviously extremely sad and tragic news. We're just reminded of what an extraordinary and inspiring man Nelson Mandela was and my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family right now," said William.
Mandela had spent much of the year in and out of the hospital being treated for a recurring lung infection.
