For my second European parkrun I visited Copenhagen.
There are four to choose from, but the favourite seems to be Amager Strandpark.
It is also possible to travel by train to Sweden over the Oresund bridge and do a parkrun there.
I will explain later about Sweden.
The nearest Metro station is Oresund and this is on the M2 line.
The Metro is easy to use.
One important point is that you must buy a ticket before you get on the Metro.
We had our tickets checked a few times over our short break in Copenhagen.
I also recommend an app called CityMapper.
If you haven't used it before, download the App, select the city you are in and then choose where you want to go.
The App will do all the work for you.
The app for buying tickets is call DOT Tickets.
It is really easy to use.
You select the start and end and then click the tick.
Then pay for your tickets.
Tickets are based on zones. Central Copenhagen being Zone 1.
From the airport to the centre of Copenhagen, its 3 zones and a single ticket cost £4 (DKK 72)
There are easy digital displays on the platforms that let you know what train is next and where it is going.
Some platforms may alternate between one line and another. But the displays show this.
The Metro is driverless and sit at the front and enjoy the ride.
If you do get on the wrong line, just get off at the next station, walk across the platform and head back the other way.
There are simple maps showing the Metro line (Each line has a different colour) and the stops along the line.
So from the city you get M2 heading to the airport (Kovenhavens Lufthavn)
When you get off at Oresund you walk up the steps at the end of the platform.
To the right you will be able to see Lidl.
Walk towards Lidl, after about 100m, you arrive at another main road.
Cross over the road and Amager Strandpark is straight in front of you.
We arrived around 08:30 and there are plenty of people exercising.
But no signs of a parkrun.
But don't worry, nobody turns up until around 3 minutes to go.
Walk past the café and over a bridge onto the island.
As you cross over the bridge there is a long pier to your left.
This is where the start and finish are.
If you walk along the pier there are some wooden buildings on your right.
Walk past the large ones and then there is a smaller one which is where everyone meets before the parkrun. You can leaves bags etc in the building whilst the parkrun is on.
This is also where the RD does his brief.
After the parkrun, the barcode scanning is done inside the building.
Then you walk to the start together.
Behind the wooden building is a concrete structure. There is a toilet in here and it will be open.
The door is on the side facing the sea.
It looks like it is all closed up but the toilet door will be open.
There is also a toilet in the café that you passed on the way from the Metro station.
We used it, but did buy a drink.
It’s common to not have any marshals here.
So unless you're first, just follow the parkrunners in front of you.
The parkrun starts on the pier by the meeting point.
You run back over the bridge and past the cafe to the road junction.
You turn left and run alongside the road to the next bridge where you turn left and go over the bridge back on to the island.
Once on the island. after about 100m you turn left and head back to the start.
This is a wavy path.
Once you get to the pier, you run to the end of the pier and run around the light on the end.
You then come back along the pier to where you started.
This is the first anticlockwise lap done.
Once you past the start you do the same route but clockwise.
But after this lap the finish is about 50m after you have come back over the bridge onto the island.
There were chalk arrows on the paths just in case you lose sight of the person in front of you.
I didn't need any of these as I always had someone in front to follow.
In summary, the parkrun is one anticlockwise lap and one clockwise lap.
The course is almost completely flat apart from the smallest of inclines on the bridges.
After the parkrun we walked back to the café that we passed on the way from the Metro.
The owner sat and chatted to us. He loves football, but was also interested in parkrun.
Sweden
Getting across to Sweden is really easy.
From the main train station, trains run regularly across the bridge to Malmo.
If you get off at the main train station, it is only a short walk to the parkrun
(Malmo Ribersborg parkrun)
Don’t forget to take your passport if you go across to Sweden. You may be checked.
